It's just me. Rambling

Born and raised in New York City and a recent graduate of Indiana University, I am back in Manhattan, writing one day at a time. I'd love to hear what you have to say. . Email me. Caitlinkeating89@gmail.com and follow me on Twitter @caitkeating

I can tell if I like someone in less than 30 seconds

I agree that sometimes it can take longer. First impressions are not always accurate, but most of the time, they are. It’s chemistry. It literally is saying hello and the feeling you get when someone says it back. It’s not checking the boxes on a dating website of what color hair you want your future husband to have, or if he is a republican, or god forbid a felon.

In this weeks New Yorker, Nick Paumgarten wrote an extremely interesting article titled “Looking for Someone.” He has been on two dates in his life. The second one was I believe over twenty years ago to the woman he is now married to.

I won’t say I’m against online dating, but I will say it’s not for me. I’ve been on a blind date, and it’s because I was set up.. by a fellow human. I have no desire to have some calculated algorithm set me up with someone who I might or might not click with.

When I meet someone, I know. It really is just a feeling. An instant attraction doesn’t necessarily mean that person is the person for you. You might talk to them for ten minutes and realize they’re cocky, or dumb, or not as impressive as your initial feeling built them up to be. But sometimes, that feeling does grow, and pardon my optimistic self in the love department, because normally I’m not this bubbly, but sometimes, that feeling does continue. I wouldn’t know because I’ve never done it, but I highly doubt your heartbeat skyrockets when match.com pulls up someone’s profile they think you might have a .0001% chance of liking.

For now, I’ll stick to dating the old fashioned way. Going about my day to day life and meeting someone who I didn’t know the second before and either feeling “it” or not, and then, taking it from there.
